Do you know what's Rice Paper or Xuan Paper?

The Xuan paper is a kind of high-quality white paper and is especially good for traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. 

In ancient China, this kind of paper was mainly produced in a place called Xuancheng. That's why it is called xuan paper. It was also used as a tribute to tribute to the ancient emperors. During the Xuande Period in the Ming Dynasty (1426-1435), Xuan Paper was so popular that its making process was even supervised by the imperial court.

According to the different processing techniques, Xuan paper is varied. Xuan paper can be divided into raw paper (Sheng Xuan 生宣), half raw (Ban Sheng Shu Xuan半熟宣), and processed paper (Shu Xuan 熟宣). The ink absorption of these 3 types of xuan paper is largely different:  Strongest (Sheng Xuan 生宣), Moderate (Ban Sheng Shu Xuan半熟宣), and Weakest (Shu Xuan 熟宣).  You can choose the one you need. But if you're a beginner, the half-raw one is the most suitable for you.
